CampBiz – November, 2011

Halloween Events
Although this is the November issue of Camp, we hit the streets on October 27, so just in case you pickup your copy of Camp, here are just a few of the Halloween events around town that we know of at this point.
Sharps – Sunday, October 30. 8 pm. 128 W. 63rd St., KCMO.
One of the most creative Halloween parties in town, this Brookside eatery and bar will shut down the restaurant, black out the windows and make the entire restaurant/bar one big Halloween party. The party is for adults only with a cash bar, free food, DJ, dancing, costume contests, and more. Cover fee is only $5.
Missie Bs Sunday, October 30 and Monday, October 31. 805 W. 39th St., KCMO
Sunday October 30th and Monday October 31st. They have big cash prizes, great entertainment and huge crowds expected to celebrate on both nights. Sign up is from 9 9:30 both nights, contests begin at 10. The Sunday night prizes are $300, $200, and $100 then Monday night they are $150, $100 and $50.
Bistro 303 Sunday, October 30. 4 pm. 303 Westport Road, KCMO
The Millennial League is hosting their Sunday night Tea Dance as a fundraiser for their annual Val-O-Ween (see story in this issue) with a Halloween costume concert. The grand prize for the contest is $1,000. The Halloween Tea Dance has a $5 door cover which goes to the fundraising efforts of the Millennial League and the Halloween contest with the chance to win $1, 000 is open to all who buy a $20 ticket to Val-O-Ween.
PlayMor Lounge Saturday, October 29. 8 pm. 532 S. Joplin Aven. Joplin, Mo
Our friends in Joplin tell us theyre celebrating Halloween two days early on Saturday night so if youre one of the many readers of Camp outside of Kansas City, join the friends at Play-Mor for a great evening. The costume contests starts at midnight with cash prizes going to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. 1st-$150, 2nd-$100, 3rd-$50
As of our press time, we have not heard from any of the other gay bars and clubs regarding their Halloween plans but their addresses are all listed on page 23 of this issue and you can check on their Facebook or website pages.
New Changes in Décor at Sharps
Scott Coker-Padilla has told me that his work in some remodeling at Sharps 63rd St. Grille will begin in early November. It should be exciting to see their design changes and look for our before and after photos in the next issue of Camp.
HRC Third Thursday at the Like Me Lighthouse Center
The Kansas City Chapter of the Human Rights Campaign is hosting their monthly Third Thursday Social with a special theme in November. HRC-KC & The LIKE ME Organization, founded by openly gay country singer Chely Wright will offer a sneek peek at the new Like Me Lighthouse Foundation Center, an LGBT education and community center scheduled to open in 2012. The center will be a resource for LGBT youth and the community.
Theyre inviting you to join them, tour the new facility in the early stages of design, and bring your collections of LGBT themed books and DVDs to help build the LikeMe Lighthouse library.

Tom Goss Live in Concert at Spirit of Hope MCC
Openly Gay Artist/songwriter Tom Goss will be appearing in Concert at Spirit of Hope MCC on Saturday, November 5, 2011. This is not his first appearance in Kansas City and many of you are fans from his previous concert in April, 2010 at the Record Bar and onstage at AIDS Walk.
His newest music video LOVER tackled Dont Ask, Dont Tell head on and was recently featured in The Advocate, Out. Com, Towleroad and After Elton. The video is currently in rotation on LOGO – it tells the story of a soldier killed in Afghanistan while his husband waits at home, and stars servicemen who where discharged under Dont Ask, Dont Tell. His previous two videos climbed to the top of MTV LOGOs The Click List.
This is a free concert open to the community; a love offering will be collected. Spirit of Hope MCC is at 3801 Wyandotte St., Kansas City, Mo. Free parking is available in the churchs lot, and street parking is also available. If you have questions, call the church office during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) at 816-931-0750.
World AIDS Day
The AIDS Service Foundation will honor those living with HIV/AIDS and those we have lost in the fight, on December 1. Read more about the days events on page six of this issue of Camp and at their website,
