After a Casino Night, MAGLCC Will Turn to Jewelry

Luck was in the air at the Mid-America Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce’s B2B Network Event on Jan. 10 at Ameristar Casino. The event was hosted by MAGLCC board member Sean Barnard, the facility’s senior vice president and general manager.

Barnard shared how Ameristar’s involvement with the chamber aligns with many of the company’s core values, including diversity and inclusion, respect and candor, and continuous improvement.

“When we saw this opportunity to join the MAGLCC, we said, ‘This really fits with our mission.’” Barnard went on to discuss the similarities he sees between the chamber and the casino. For example, he said, “I worry that people in the community say, ‘All [Ameristar> is, is a riverboat.’ We’re more than just a riverboat … and that is how we look at the chamber. Does it only serve gay-owned, -operated and -managed businesses? No, it doesn’t. It is so much more!”

With the crowd approaching 80, attendees were treated to a full night of hors d’oeuvres, drinks and favors. Guests also tried their hand at casino games, with small-group lessons in blackjack, craps, and roulette, the latter led by Barnard himself.

But for many, the highlight of the evening was engaging with new friends and contacts. Kim Young, of Kim Young Insurance Agency, said, “We’re all here to make business contacts. I like to support the businesses that support our community any way I can, and the chamber gives me a new way to connect.”

The chamber’s next B2B Network Event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Tivol on the Country Club Plaza, 220 Nichols Rd. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres and beverages.&nbsp
