New organization forms to spearhead 2015 LGBTQIA “Mid-America Pride” in Kansas City

A group of community leaders, businesses, and charitable organizations have come together to form the MoKan Comm-UNITY Consortium for the purpose of planning a more inclusive community Pride festival and Parade in 2015. Those businesses and organizations who came together and formed the Consortium include Camp Magazine, Equality Kansas, GLAMA @ UMKC, Hamburger Mary’s KC, Hear Me Out Toastmasters, Heart of America Leather, Industry Video Bar, Kansas City Bear Mafia, Late Night Theater, LIKEME® Lighthouse, Mid America Freedom Band, Missouri Gay Rodeo Association, Out Here Now: Kansas City LGBT Film Festival, The Kansas City Star/INK Magazine, and Wonderland.
The consortium continues to grow as at least a dozen additional interested groups have been in communication with the consortium, many with plans to join and extend their full backing of the effort.
The event to be known as Mid-America Pride will feature a festival and parade on June 5-6, 2015.
The MoKan Comm-UNITY Consortium held their first meeting on June 18, 2014, and have been holding regular planning and strategic meetings since that time. The schedule for future meetings will be announced within the month. The community is welcome to attend those meetings. Much like leading Pride organizations in cities like St. Louis, Los Angeles, and others, the MoKan Comm-UNITY Consortium has organized around a committee structure. The committees will oversee specific areas of the two-day event.
The location of the Mid America Pride event will be announced soon. The MoKan Comm-UNITY Consortium will post all information on www.mokancc.org. They will also be working with local media to get the word out to the community.
Those businesses or organizations interested in joining the MoKan Comm-UNITY Consortium (or those interested in sponsorship, vendor booths or other information) please contact: media@mokancc.org
