The Kansas City HRC Battle of the Bands is gearing up for its sixth annual music competition. This year the show will be from 2 to7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at The Point Bar & Grill, 917 W. 44th St., Kansas City, Mo. At the door, the entrance fee will be $25, but early online ticket sales are discounted. Tickets purchased online by Dec. 31 are $15, and after Jan. 1, the online price increases to $20. Ticket prices include an annual Human Rights Campaign membership
Membership and outreach co-chair Liz Ramey is helping to coordinate the event this year.
She said her first HRC event was Battle of the Bands 2013, where she enjoyed the excitement and the social environment, which she felt enhanced camaraderie in the Kansas City LGBT community.
This year’s event will feature two separate stages, she said. “In the adjacent building to the main bar at The Point,” Ramey said, “there will be the electric bands. Acoustic bands will play in the main bar area. Heaters will be set up in the outdoor area to allow people to mingle.”
Currently scheduled to perform are:
• Violet and the Undercurrents
• Nikki & the Rooftop Punch
• Band Quattro
• Amanda Hughey Music
• Ashley Kendrick
• Stefan Soltero
• Dolls on Fire
Prize money will be awarded to top performers, Ramey said, and all participants will receive HRC gear and a hosted after-party.
The hosts will be the always-hilarious Dorothy Gale and Genewa Stanwyck. Many music fans look forward to the HRC Battle of the Bands every year, and it definitely is an event not to miss.
