Get Some Exercise — With the Team

With the month of January under our belts, what if said belts aren’t quite fitting like we hoped they would after we spent money on new gym memberships?

Have no fear. February is a good time to set realistic expectations for exercise and weight loss by not going it alone. The Kansas City area offers plenty of LGBT-inclusive sports teams that are gearing up for warmer weather and looking for new athletes to join them for physical and social activity.
Bowling might not necessarily be synonymous with athleticism, but it’s an excellent way to burn calories and use nearly all of the muscles in the body. One option is the International Gay Bowling Organization, which provides educational services, communication avenues and social opportunities to promote bowling through leagues and tournaments. Kansas Citians are grouped in Region 11 of IGBO, the Upper Mississippi Valley region. This year, Region 11 is host to IGBO’s international conference and tournament, which will be May 19-24 in Omaha.

Those who enjoy running or walking can join a very active community of like-minded athletes. The Frontrunners’ mission is to promote running, walking and club events in a supportive LGBT community. The group welcomes all abilities and interests and organizes runs twice a week — on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.
