The third annual Bear Crossing, hosted by the Kansas City Bear Mafia, a 501(c)3 organization, will be a four-day event that brings in more than 200 attendees from the Kansas City area, surrounding states and even other countries.
With a Summer Games theme, the event will be based in Westport at the 816 Hotel. Passes are available online for $139 before Aug. 1. At-the-door pricing for the whole event will be $159.
This year they will be premiering the film Bear City 3 at Tivoli Cinemas for the attendees. The two main events for the long weekend will be Furnado and Splashdance. Furnado is an exclusive Friday night dance party at the Vox Theatre, 1405 Southwest Blvd., with special guest DJ Kurt Jo from New York City. Saturday’s Splashdance is a complete takeover of Coco Key Water Resort just for the bears. Each event is available a la carte for anyone to attend without having to purchase a pass for the whole weekend. Furnado is $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Splashdance is $50 in advance and $60 at the door.
Larry Sharp, director of marketing for the KC Bear Mafia, said, “Our goal is to raise money for our beneficiaries by putting the fun in fundraising. We also have a strong focus on partnering and showing off local and Kansas City original businesses and attractions.”
They raised $7,500 in 2014 for their primary beneficiary, LIKEME Lighthouse. In 2015 they were able to increase that to $8,000, which they split between the LIKEME Lighthouse and Good Samaritan Project. Their goal for 2016 is to raise more money and split it among: FosterAdopt Connect (formerly Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association), LIKEME Lighthouse, Heartland Men’s Chorus and Mid America Freedom Band.
